hm today was quite productive. i finished coasts for geog. yay! i realized i had to make myself uncomfortable so i'll study. if not the comfort of air-con will tempt me to the luring hands of my drawer full of x-men comics. yeah so one chapter down, 8 more to go! with 2 weeks. i can make it!
ok now onto something serious. last time i used to bboy cos i had to. cos it was for performances. for the scout troop. and i thought 'breakdancing' as it was called was only for poseurs and bad boys. who smoked pot and were delinquents. but i realized the bad thing about stereotypes. it's an 'over-hasty generalization'. not all bboys are bad. some really are poseurs. right chris? anyway it's not chris. chris is better now. as in some people come to our session and wall run and do all sorts of things just to pose. and those guys are 'only in it for the tricks'. cos it looks cool. i really can't stand these type of people. these type of people give the real bboys a bad name. these people are the basis of the stereotypes. at first i thought edmund was very 'pai kia', cos he was a bboy. but i couldn't be more wrong. he is one of the most Godly people i know, who does everything for God. and he's someone i respect. so after some sessions, i realized it was a lot of fun. and that's where it all began. we would pray before each session to make it productive. and it always was. but we were scrutinised by a lot of people. in fact, one person said to me 'nataniel! you're such a good boy! how come you're involved in breakdancing?' i was really stung by her remark. but because she was a teacher, i explained it to her and now she knows that it's not true. bboys don't like the name 'breakdancer' cos it's poseur. as idiotic as this may sound, bboying is a form of expression. other people choose music. we choose bboying. despite it's obvious physical benefits, bboying is also another way to relieve stress. but we have to make sure our improvements do not go to our heads. if not we'll be no better than the poseurs. right? now i know how wrong i was. and i'll never judge a book by it's cover. to clear misconceptions, we session in the open and in sch cos thats the only place with adequate space and no obstructions for us to injure ourselves with. and a lot of people think we session there to show off. people also think we are very proud and snobbish. but the thing is, if you're willing to learn, and you want to do it cos you enjoy it and not just for an ego trip, we'll teach you all we know. and through bboying, i've met some really good people. like s0ng, edmund and yuan hao. and they're strong christians who devote every practice session, every performance and every move to Him. that's why they are so good. the poseurs just crash and burn. they don't last long. cos they're ego will get in the way. also, every battle is like a show. we put on a front for the opponent. we have to act very 'attitude' during battles, and that probably contributes to the poseur image. but it's not like that. that's only a front. it's because our world is a fallen world. people rather see bad news than good. if the first bboys acted all nice about it, no one would watch them. no one would take up bboying. battles are only a front. on the other hand, there are also the bboys who insult begginer bboys. like the other day. i wasn't there, but they insulted a friend. which is not very nice. that's what puts potential bboys off. it kills that spark. if confronted with something like that, we shouldn't insult them back. cos that will only prove that we are no better than them right? we should instead pray for them. and feel sorry for them. and we must remember no matter how good we get, it's all because of Him. and we can never ever let it go to our heads. as roosevelt once said, '
Walk quietly, but carry a big stick'. they'll never know what hit them.
P.S congratulations dwayne!! treat her well ;)
